Last weekend Lauren came to visit. In between several shopping trips, we also made it to the Kroller-Muller Museum in the Hoge Veluwe National Park. We hopped on our free white bikes and headed off in the direction of the museum. There are several bike-pick-up-points in the park and you just choose your bike and then leave it at the next point. We wandered round the sculpture garden of the museum which was a little disappointing, since a lot of the artworks were still being restored after a major storm we had a few months ago. Still, it was great to be out in the fresh air, enjoying the wide open spaces! On the way out of the park we took a detour past the Jachthuis (Hunting lodge) that used to belong to the owner of the park. The park used to be his private hunting ground and the basis of the musem is his wife's extensive art collection.

First sunny day in months- Our trip to Marken

Marken is a small island to the north of Amsterdam- about 16km from the north-eastern edge of the city. Considering we left from the west, it turned out to be a 45km round trip. Great on the way there (wind at our backs) but a struggle on the way back! Marken is now connected to the mainland by a Dyke, so when cycling you see the Ijsselmeer on the one side and the polder (farmland) on the other. A short distance outside Amsterdam you reach Durgodam, a small collection of houses along the Dyke. The pics at the bottom show the start of the trip, so scroll up for chronological order (next time I'll do this differently :)
